What is Amelia’s Army?

Amelia’s Army is an online triathlon club for all women, but is especially focused on women new to the sport. Named after Juliet’s bike, which has taken her to wonderful places to train and race with wonderful women, Amelia’s Army supports and cheers and inspires each other through online, interactive workouts, on Facebook, Strava and via a shared triathlon training plan. Women can choose to meet up at races, host homestays, attend camps and train together when geographically possible.

In 2017, Juliet Thompson Hochman established a high performance women’s triathlon team in Portland, Oregon. Referred to as those “Bad-Ass Triathlete Women” by their male training partners, the BATWomen moniker stuck. Since its inception, the BATWomen have doubled in size, supported four women in earning their Pro card; placed athletes on podiums at regional, national and world championships; and propelled women to personal bests in swim, bike and run. By training together, women felt supported, unjudged, inspired, mentored and motivated. The BATWomen are stronger together.

In 2020, Juliet wanted to share the idea of the BATWomen with all women. In her first athletic incarnation as an Olympic rower, Juliet understood the power of an all women’s boathouse; a physical space where women trained every day with the singular goal of making boats go fast. Where all women were recognized and valued. Juliet believes passionately in the power of a supportive community of women and that sport can transform lives.
